Kathmandu. Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty got relief from the court in a 16-year-old 'indecent' kiss case. The Mumbai Sessions Court on Monday dismissed the petition filed against the court order acquitting the Hollywood actor Richard Gere and Shilpa in the 2007 kiss case.
Actor Gere kissed Shetty in front of everyone on the stage of a public event. After that, a case was registered against Shetty. Additional Sessions Judge SC Jadhav rejected the petition of the court order to acquit. The full text of this order is yet to come.
This incident of kissing in public is 16 years old, which happened on April 15, 2007 at an AIDS awareness program in Rajasthan. Actor Gere kissed Shetty in front of everyone on stage. After that, voices were raised against the incident from many parts of India. People protested it as vulgar and an insult to the country's culture.
A case was registered against Gere and Shetty in Rajasthan under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Information Technology Act. In 2017, the case was transferred to Mumbai by order of the Supreme Court. In January 2022, a magistrate court acquitted Shetty of the charges. The court ruled that he was a victim of the actions of actor Gere.
