Kathmandu. The 12th Annual General Meeting of the Intellectual Property Protection Society of Nepal (IPPSON) has elected a new working committee under the leadership of Bisu Kumar KC. The meeting held on Friday, 19th Paush 2081, elected a new working committee of 11 members under the leadership of KC.
Bisu Kumar KC is the president of this society, Amber Bahadur Thapa is the vice president, Laxman Rimal is the general secretary, Saroj Khanal is the secretary, and Shiv Thapa is the treasurer.
Similarly, the outgoing president, Madhusudan Paudel, Dr. Pratibha Pandey, Chudamani Devkota, Lakshmi Sapkota, Sajjanwar Singh Thapa, and Mukund Dhungana are among the executive members.
After the annual general meeting of the society, a symposium on 'Intellectual Property' was held in collaboration with the Government of Nepal, Department of Industry, and Intellectual Property Protection Society of Nepal. Economist Dr. Poshraj Pandey expressed his views on the role of intellectual property in economic development.
Pandey said that although intellectual property is an important tool for economic, technological, and cultural development, we are lagging behind because we have not been able to properly manage it in Nepal. Pandey mentioned the fact that even though it has been seven or eight years since the policy regarding intellectual property was introduced, no law has yet been made to implement it.
Former minister Shankar Prasad Koirala, former secretaries Bhanu Prasad Acharya, Bharat Bahadur Thapa, and Krishna Gyawali, and Director General of Industries Department Rajeshwar Gyawali gave a speech on intellectual property. In addition, experts in the field of industry and commerce and intellectual property experts also gave their greetings in the program.
In the program, Somnath Gautam of the department presented a working paper on 'Current situation and status of industrial property administration.'.
Bisukumar K.C., the president of the Intellectual Property Protection Society of Nepal, said that in the future, the organization will take the policy of doing activities related to the development and promotion of intellectual property by collaborating with government and private sector associations and will support and initiate the passage of a new intellectual property law.
Intellectual Property Protection Society Nepal is a social organization established for the purpose of cooperation and initiative from the non-governmental sector for the protection and promotion of intellectual property, including patent design, trademark, and copyright.
